We’re delighted to present a review of our fabulous Social Scaffolding tour 2023! See link in bio ⬆️ ⭐️ What an amazing year it’s been! It was, in fact, a year ago today that we started setting up our immersive and interactive exhibition in our first venue, @create_no8 in Shepton Mallet, Somerset ⭐️ Following two successful pilot exhibitions in Taunton and Bath in 2022, we were thrilled to be awarded substantial Project funding by Arts Council England @aceagrams for a 6-venue exhibition tour in 2023 in the West/Southwest of England. Our innovative immersive and interactive exhibition ran from April-November 2023, touring to empty shops in busy town and city centres, attracting a range of visitors and especially those who might not normally be interested in art. The focus of our exhibition was on connection, conversation, community, creativity, collaboration and care and we were delighted that over our 8-month tour we had 8000 visitors ⭐️ We are very grateful and proud to have had the opportunity to facilitate such a vibrant, heartwarming and, frankly, astonishing project. What next? We are now taking some time to reflect and to begin to research new work, individually and as a collective. We hope to be back touring new or developed work as Social Scaffolding in 2025/26. We are very interested in discussing opportunities for Social Scaffolding’s next iteration, so please contact us if you have a proposed venue or idea. Thank you to everyone who visited us and to those who talked with us and joined in with the participatory activities. It wouldn’t have been what it became without you. It’s exciting to see how @julietduckworth9631’s latest participatory project is growing! 🍃🌱🌿 Juliet says ‘Weaving a Forest Floor workshop yesterday as part of @_houseofimagination Artist Network Development (AND) programme at Bath Spa Uni @bathspauni Doing Together Symposium. @gemmasfunkyart and l had a great time interacting with visitors using recycled materials to add to an accumulative artwork and bringing awareness of the UK’s temperate rainforests and their indicator species. A glimpse into Lou’s ‘anywhere and everywhere’ studio! 😎 Lou says ‘My happy place…. knitting on the beach! At the moment I’m knitting shadows in the shade…. Poet and author, Robert Bly, suggests that we all carry with us what he calls a shadow sack. It contains things we have repressed since childhood – passions, feelings, memories, behaviours and more. As we get older our shadow sack begins to leak and we’re compelled to examine the contents. Sometimes we find gold amongst the shadows. What’s in your shadow sack? My knitted shadows will be part of a new sculpture, one of my old swimming costumes, transformed; my own ‘Shadow sack’. It’s for an exhibition about women and ageing, called ‘Instructions Not Included’, involving women of all ages. It’s conceived and curated by @amandahall.43, opening @kitformgallery, Bristol on Friday 24th May, 6-9 then on till Sunday 26th. Urban Rookery was the backdrop and @a.la.na.o_0 responded to it and the atmospheric environment of the former mortuary by moulding her body into clay, mimicking birds making their nests. She created beautiful shapes and movements intuitively reacting to the location and material. Various forms of photography have captured it all and I’m excited to see the results in due course. Thank you @oliviags_photography @datarav3. Then to see where this leads …. ? Exciting developments ahead - 3d printing? Performance? Multiple dancers? Huge blocks of clay? Cast in the place they erupted and emerging as temporary conical shapes of excavated soil. I’m curious about what’s under the ground ? the networks of tunnels created by such industrious engineers. I’m still enjoying installing these clay covered apples and experimenting with place and time. Their rotting inside their clay skins is an active performance in space. They are lighter in weight as they shrivel and decay and the surface has altered in colour and shape. I’m wondering about leaving them outside to see the effects of weathering. Maybe this adds to the ephemerality? I’ve wrapped another season’s produce ready to expand the work - or to replace? Nature is a continuous cycle of growth and decay and my apple trees repeatedly provide more material in a persistent way. #appleart #temporalityinart #ephemeral #gravityfalls #installationart #sculpture
