Environmental Responsibility

A problem shared, is a problem halved.

We believe that the arts and creative community can inspire and provoke conversations around care for the environment and action on climate change. We’ll minimise the environmental impact of our tour by continuing to gather relevant data in key areas, analysing it for each venue and using it to adapt our plans.

We’re focusing on 5 key areas:

Travel

  • Modelling low carbon travel where possible by using public transport, walking, cycling, car sharing or staying locally if possible.

  • Promoting sustainable travel routes to our tour venues - listing key bus, train or cycle routes & recommending regional visitors choose to attend venues with train stations.

Marketing

  • Predominantly digital marketing via social media etc.

  • Develop a website & mailing list for blogs & email communication.

  • Minimise printed publicity & use recycled paper & environmentally friendly ink.

  • Reusable signage, made from recycled materials where possible.

Materials

  • Maximise the investment in manufacturing carbon footprint of artworks by touring them to multiple venues (reusing them) to engage with many communities.

  • Challenge ourselves to reduce the materials we use, & choose to reuse/recycle materials within our artworks.

Energy

  • Monitor energy usage in each venue, particularly for digital installations.

  • Reduce energy usage with automatic timers or motion sensors to switch off lights & appliances when not being viewed or used.

  • Wear warm clothes & keep active before resorting to space heating.

Environmental responsibility

In conversations with participants, we take an advocacy role, highlighting the benefits of engaging with the environment in a positive way. We’ll continue to measure the positive impact of these conversations by collecting qualitative feedback.

Environmental ambitions

We will continue to gather, monitor and act on relevant data. As our collective grows we will develop a full environmental policy referring to Julie’s Bicycle Arts Council England Policy and Action Plans Guidance and investing in training for the artists where necessary. We will share best practice with our interns, partners and other key stakeholders.
